In our previous two articles, we discussed the drawbacks of the SCI evaluation system and the pitfalls of single-dimensional thinking. Today, we turn to research directions that hold genuine long-term significance.

This controversy has exposed many practical problems, such as academic involution, institutional constraints, and passive dependence on external evaluation systems, prompting the public to re-examine different paths for current scientific research development.

Some even engage in data falsification, a practice that betrays the original aspiration of academia. At its root, such problems stem from being bound by established evaluation frameworks and confined to competition within the existing system. Even if loopholes are exposed and addressed, they only rectify superficial disorders in the industry, hardly shaking the long-established framework of classical theories.
In contrast, research explorations of truly disruptive value do not fixate on the quality of papers or professional title evaluations. Instead, they dare to inquire into universally recognized authoritative theories, and conduct critical reflection and verification on Nobel Prize-winning established academic achievements. Such explorations dare to propose new perspectives on time-honored classical theories, supported by rigorous experiments and logical deductions, breaking the long-standing boundaries of cognitive understanding. The scale and impact of such endeavors far exceed those of ordinary paper disputes.
In the long course of scientific development, there are no eternal unchangeable conclusions. Many Nobel Prize-winning theories have driven leaps in their fields in specific eras. Yet with the iteration of observation technologies, the upgrading of experimental methods, and the broadening of research perspectives, past understandings leave room for supplementation, revision, and even reinterpretation.
Routine academic misconduct investigations discipline the academic atmosphere and maintain the stable operation of the existing system. Challenging authoritative classical theories, however, explores the underlying logic of science and propels disciplinary iteration and innovation. The two are fundamentally different: the former regulates the current order, while the latter pioneers future directions.
Currently, the research community is trapped in institutional involution, with scholars locked in competition on established tracks. Stepping out of the fixed circle, letting go of obsession with paper metrics and academic titles, devoting oneself to fundamental principles, daring to put forward new insights into top authoritative achievements, and conducting research based on empirical evidence—such explorations can truly break cognitive barriers and open up new paths for the development of local science.
We should respect the contributions of previous generations of researchers while retaining the courage to question, reflect, and explore independently. Not blindly following authoritative conclusions, not relying on external evaluation systems, and pursuing truth based on one’s own research findings—this spirit of breakthrough is the core driving force that propels human science forward continuously.
